Diversity Center Coordinator Lawrence University Reports To : Assistant Dean of Students for Multicultural Affairs Location : Diversity Center Primary Objective : Full-time, 12-month contract. The primary responsibility of this position is to manage the daily operations of the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) and the Diversity Center. An important secondary aspect of this position is to assist with diversity programming and training as appropriate. In addition, the Diversity Center Coordinator will serve as a resource to students, clubs and organizations, and further enhance connections and collaboration within the Lawrence community. Duties : Oversee the daily operations of the department Supervise student staff Hire, train, evaluate, approve time sheets, and assign work to students Monitor student work budget Manage administrative duties: answer/direct phone calls, facilitate mail process, maintain bulletin boards, order supplies, reservation rooms Manage department budget: accounts payable requests, credit card logs, receipts, and other expenses Develop and maintain student database for records, mailing and list serves Maintain department website, archives, reports, and diversity newsletter Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, faculty, and staff Provide administrative support to the Assistant Dean of Students for Multicultural Affairs Manage appointments and scheduling Coordinate Staff Meetings Facilitate incoming and outgoing correspondence as requested Draft, edit, and proofread department materials as needed Assist with diversity programming and training throughout academic year Help coordinate events including but not limited to: research and contact speakers, contract negotiation, check requests, hotel accommodations, transportation, room reservations and catering requests. Create publicity and media promotions for all events Facilitate programs and trainings as appropriate Evaluate effectiveness of programs Provide assistance and support to students and diversity clubs/organizations on campus Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Students for Multicultural Affairs Participate as an active and contributing member of the Lawrence Community and the Student Affairs staff Knowledge and Skills preferred: Bachelor’s Degree. Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience, preferably in education/higher education setting. Experience working with diverse populations, office management, programming, and cross cultural competency. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, multi-task, and adhere to deadlines. General knowledge of supervision, organizational skills, marketing and publicity, and budgeting. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Intermediate knowledge of MS office programs: Word, Excel, Access, and Photoshop) and Social Media venues: Facebook and Twitter. Plus, experiences with web page development. Employment Requirements: Must have successful completion of criminal record check, driving record check (where applicable) and reference checks. Work Schedule : Monday – Friday regular office hours (8am-5pm) with some evenings and weekends required.
